Affect theory and embodied methodologies tell me to follow where my connections line. But it may also complicate the narrative if I don’t trace the sightlines carefully.
Little Giraffe Story House:
Ethnicity and cultural politics - as much as I am afraid of touching such difficult topics, it is also exemplified through the cultural practices of arts collectives. A lot of the ethnic dynamics become clear. But further elaboration on this can be found in historical shifts in legislating cultural policy. I am excited to see it emerge from the urban forms of Little Giraffe Story House for example, built on colonial urban history - the Chinese new village.
Hendrik’s determination for my case study findings to be in my writing I believe that I will be articulating a lot of my findings will be done in my dissertation. As a lot of the discussion is in my powerpoint speech, I can continue that work at least to digest the CCA data collected.
The narrowing down of methodological choice - and hence methodological clarity of describing the design, drawing method, and mapping direction - This will continue to be clarified as I expand my methodology and findings, connected to the point above.
Selecting case studies - and to not do a matrix of scales and a well distributed ‘catch all’ spread of collectives, as it is not easy. I know time is running! So, I hope to follow the threads that I laid down for many years, but also to weave it into my practice. My upcoming one is working with the Klang River Festival and thinking through how to map their intervention as it straddles landscapes, arts and the site itself.
